Really loved the place! May is the best time of the year to visit this place as you will be able to see the Blue Bell flowers that cover the whole forest floor, which was really a beautiful experience for me. It is one of the best place for hiking. Such a peace and quiet place. The woods make you feel so close to nature!
As a wood open to the public, you can't do better. It is a big space allowing most people to do something without too much interference. Dog walkers must learn to put their animals on a lead as chasing the deer and running amoke is not good behaviour.Parking is good, the walks many and varied and plenty of places for a picknick.
Visited this Sunday 13th May. Was the perfect time the bluebells were intense and the woods were empty. It is very easy to get lost so I suggest not making too many turns and head in one direction to avoid loosing your way. But is all else fails my google maps worked in the woods at times I even had 4g so you can navigate your way back to the car park. You need at least a good 4 hpurs to explore the forest and blue bells especially if you taking snaps. Perfect time to go is early morning or later afternoon around 6pm. Easy enough to get to on the A361 from Devises way. Reccomend going in a group as it is very quiet and isolated.
A forrest covered with bluebells takes you to a whole other world. It feels like youre in a fantasy realm. Although I didnt see any fairies, the forrest was abuzz with the sound of working bees. I have been graced by the presence of wood anemone, dandelion, and other different types of flower overshadowed by beech trees. Keep an eye out for random camp remains. This place far exceeded my expectation in terms of size, you can easily get lost amongst the beauty. Before getting to this place, we were worried about parking as it wouldnt show on the map. However, when we arrived, there was plenty of space to park. Make sure to empty your bladder as there are no toilets around.
At this time of year late April all the blue bells are in flower it is a lovely forest to walk around but be careful it is quite big and you could easily get lost,we saw a deer also a badger set,Primroses and wood anemone the celandine were going over but noticed a white bell amongst the blues,Well worth the walk.
